"Why aren't you obeying the laws of Physics?" I shouted at myself.

Clung to the roof like a ceiling fan with four arms, my four limbs transformed into those four arms, I looked like a creature from the netherworld. But I knew it was me.

A sudden jolt of electricity shook my core, like the motor of a fan when someone switches on the button. Hell, someone had switched on the button. The fan started rotating, first slowly and then at top speed.

Switching on a fan and it rotating is normal business; except this time the fan was me. As the speed increased, I began gasping for breath. My limbs were almost coming apart, my being screaming for help, for someone to switch off the fan, for the rotations to stop.

I wanted to come back to my gross body which lay in the bed below; the vantage point from where I was observing me. As my body on the ceiling rotated, my body on the bed went out of breath. In two places at the same time. Physics could not explain what was happening. But both my bodies, wanted the fan be turned off. Some external force prevented this.

Tired from trying to prevent my limbs from tearing or my heart from exploding; my bodies dozed off. I didn't realize when. Upon waking, I was no longer short of breath. However, my head was heavy, and my body, lethargic. The cannabis drink was wearing off.

    Title : Gravity Explained

“Why aren’t you obeying the laws of physics?” he whined.

Granddad loved it when I walked up the side of walls and read books as if I was standing on the floor. Brett hated it. Granddad would call me his magical Princess and tell me how his mother could do it too. His mama was careful not to let strangers see her for fear of being dragged off to the big house on the hill where they kept the unusual ones. When she died Granddad’s father wasn’t sure whether to bury her in the normal way or have the coffin standing on end. No one knows for sure as she was buried before sunrise. Great granddad chose not to serve animal at her wake too. The town had never eaten vegetarian food before. Lizzie Cardew’s funeral buffet was talked about for decades.

I’ve really tried obeying the laws of physics for Brett’s sake. His once handsome face now consumed with bitterness. It’s always someone else’s fault. When he backed the three legged nag in the Derby it was my fault it being called Brett’s Girl!

I’ve felt the baby move for a few weeks now. It’s a girl. She’s been telling me things. Things she’s noticed about her daddy. How he looks and smiles at the barmaid. How his touch lingers just a bit too long on the arm of my best friend Patsy. My baby has been telling me about Gravity. Brett is talking about painting the outside of the house. I’ve told him he needs to be careful those gutters are really high up. The force of a person the weight of Brett hitting the concrete patio at a certain speed equals death. One day soon Brett is going to understand the laws of physics a lot better.

Once Upon a Time in The Dragonsong Mountains

“Why aren’t you obeying the laws of physics?” the menacing Skycop asked Lucille.

There we were, innocently chugging our classic Detwiller Craft over the Dragonsong Mountains when this power-hungry ninny pulled us over, demanding that we lower the ship onto the tiniest of pullover ledge-lanes.

I’d had a premonition that we might find ourselves in a bit of a pickle when we started out on this jaunt. Which, I don’t need to remind most Aircraft enthusiasts, is what the classic Detwiller looks like; A giant dill pickle.

We hadn’t been on a trip in months and Lucille was itching to get elevated once again.

“We don’t have much air time left, Claude,” she’d said ever so wistfully the previous week.

She was so right. We were both weeks away from mandatory grounding age. The Helios Triumvirate was cruelly dispassionate about time extensions. Even someone with Lucille’s impeccable, albeit ancient flying credentials was shown no leeway.

    And there were other obstacles.

Lucille had continued to sharpen her tongue as we plummeted down the firepole of life.

“I asked you a question, you archaic aviatrix?” the menacing, hovering, and apparently quite nasty Skycop continued to harangue Lucille.

I thought about chiming in with a protective spousal comment, (the kind she can’t abide) when she gave him a diversionary what for with, “What law of my physique am I breaking, officer?”

This caught him off guard but only for a moment.

    “PHYSICS, Madame. PHYSICS!”

“Ah,’ Lucile rebutted, “to which law are you referring? My favorite’s Newton’s 3rd. I was a pretty fair dancer in my heyday.”

    What a woman, I thought.

    The Skycop was thrown off-balance.

“You’re wasting my time,” he relented. “Take off. Go crash in someone else’s zone.”

You didn’t have to tell Lucille twice.

The free blue sky was calling.

    WICKED

“Why aren’t you obeying the laws of Physics?” he demanded, finally addressing me.

I realized a few blocks ago that he was following me but I played it cool. I stopped walking and turned to face him. “How do you know I don’t? And which laws?”

“Oh,” he began, a wicked smile on his face, “we… I know.”

“Who’s asking? And why are you following me?”

He looked me in the eye. “I want to know. And that answers both questions.”

I wasn’t quite sure if he was trying to intimidate me. I was getting mixed signals. I could sense masked fear. “Only you?” I was stalling. I knew the question was merely a trap.

I didn’t think he expected my probing. For a moment, he seemed uncertain. I glared at him as he started to say yes. I recognized I had the upper hand. “My brothers and me,” he finally answered, looking around anxiously.

It was meant to be threatening. I presumed he didn’t know much about me. “Are you sure y’all want to know?” I smirked. I enjoyed taunting them, especially inexperienced young warlocks.

He nodded firmly. “Yes!” he replied, trying to sound and look menacing.

"Those laws of Physics do not apply to me!" I floated up and hovered a couple of meters up in front of him. Before he could do anything, I pointed my ring at him, its huge gem shone blindingly. He disintegrated into ashes and the wind blew away all signs of his existence.

“Laws of Physics my behind.” I cackled. "This sorceress rocks!”

    1. And because I had quite a bit of fun with this, here's the 65-word version of it:

“Why aren’t you obeying the laws of Physics?” he demanded.

“You’re seriously asking?” I smirked, floated up and hovered a couple of meters up in front of him. Before he could do anything, I pointed my ring at him, its huge gem shone blindingly. He disintegrated into ashes and the wind blew away all signs of his existence.

“Silly warlock.” I cackled. "This sorceress rocks!”

“Why aren’t you obeying the laws of physics?”

Alice moved the hair out of her face and looked down. Ben stood in her bedroom doorway, hands on hips. “Could you be more specific?”

“Well, for one thing, you’re standing on the ceiling.”

“I think that’s a law of gravity, not physics.”

Crossing the room, Ben pulled out the desk chair and sat. “Gravity is physics. Can you get down now; the light’s hurting my eyes.”

Alice sighed: “You could always turn it off.”

    “You could always come down.”

“I’m older, do as you’re told.” She folded her arms, her face beginning to flush.

“By two minutes. Get down woman and make me a sandwich.”

She scowled, Ben returned the look.

Alice laughed. “Fine, I’ll come down but only because my head’s starting to go funny.” She looked around. “Any ideas how?”

Ben flicked absentmindedly through a magazine. “How did you get up there?”

“Not sure; I was chasing a fly.”

“As you do.” Ben dropped the magazine onto the desk. “Try walking down the wall.”

Alice obeyed and was soon standing on the ground. “Weird. Did you know we could do that?”

“Of course; I’ve been doing that since we were six.”

Alice rolled her eyes. “Really. Show me.”

Ben stood, clearing his throat. “I would, but we’re supposed to pretend to be normal. Can’t have the foster folk figuring out what we’re up to.”

Alice mimicked his words, her voice high.

“Well, if you want to risk everything we’ve been doing over the last two year…” Ben placed his foot on the wall.

Alice raised her eyebrows. “I’m waiting.”

Ben took a step. His body hit the floor.

Alice laughed, gripping her stomach as tears filled her eyes. “Since we were six you say.”

    “Shut it Alice.” Ben winced.
